Yes, signs are changing in LA, but this has been there for years, and the change is not to this style.
To say Los Angeles is multi-faceted is an understatement. As an LA City Nerd, I have the privilege of sharing with you some of the nuances that make this City, well, LA. Whether good or bad, that's for you to decide. I'm not the ultimate expert on all things LA, but I know enough to be considered a City Nerd.

National Confusion

I could be way off base but I'm thinking it might be located on some of the railroad property/right-of-way that goes through that area. So it may be that, back in the way, the railroad put the sign up and not the city and since it's not on city property the city never fixed it.
ReplyDeleteI've seen other black & white signs in LA. In fact, until a few months ago there was a sign on the northbund Santa Monica Bl. exit off the 405 that listed distances to Century City and Bev Hills in black and white. I gather that they're from an earlier generation of street signage; I'm sure the city hasn't always used blue and white.
