Hazard & Shorb

Is it me, or is this map (found via the Atwater Village Nerd) listing fake places for no reason in Downtown and the east side: Shorb? Hazard? Dockweiler?

(check out a readable version at the Atwater site..)

I read that map purveyors Thomas Bros. (maybe also Mapquest, who knows?) put fake streets in their maps to ferret out copyright violations.

Perhaps, or are these new map-makers just confused?

These are (somtimes long gone) train "stops" along a railroad line ("stops" meaning some kind of designated point on a railroad line that hold some sort of significance to the railroad company, could be a stations, equipment, junction, etc.) There doesn't even have to be a railroad line there anymore - for example, old Pacific Electric "junctions" are still marked somtimes. I have noticed these for many years on mapquest.
