Welcome Perspective...

With only four posts so far, the LA Militant Nerd has already shown some insight and perspective that is fresh to the scene of LA blogs.

We take just the slightest offence at what he/she mentions about other blogs about LA - but, everyone's entitled to an opinion, and we think this one is going to be good.

Check it out; it covers a few LA stories not yet found in the blog mix of LA.

(see "LA Militant Nerd" at right for future reference.)

Militant Angeleno: "other L.A. blogs, as celebrated as they are, show a decidedly white, transplanted gentro-hipster point of view of the city."

I can't take too offense to this - in fact, I totally agree. And I'm a white, transplanteed gentro something (although "hipster" is a stretch).

Personally, I would like to see more blogs representing more of LA's widespread demographics. There are some quality Latino bloggers, but there need to be a whole lot more. But where are the African American and Asian bloggers? (I know there's a couple out there, but we need a whole lot more).

I think if you're looking for more latino bloggers, all you have to do is look a little deeper. They're there, though not all may speak Spanish or live in East LA...

Also, keep in mind that in Los Angeles especially, many latinos feel less and less defined by Guatemala or El Salvador or Mexico (that includes myself) than they do by Los Angeles and California.

Latinos, Asians, and blacks are among the people, being Angelenos, not merely being observed through a microscope carrying out the traditions of their homeland (ha).

This isn't the proper forum for my little rant, however; so I'll let it go for now.

I'm interested to read the Militant Angeleno's views on life here, and I welcome him or her!

David -
Yeah I'm one of those you listed above. :) Oftentimes I'll go to some event and find myself the only nonwhite/nonblack person there, wondering where all "my people" are. But then things like that only fuel my Militancy.

I can't not disagree when I think about how a lot of the blogs focus on areas and activities in places like the Westside or Silverlake...

Maybe this is just because I'm not technically from LA (San Gabriel Valley) and only live here during the school year... (until I graduate, when I may live here for real and not just in pretend housing.)

But you can go and see nightlife here with skinny Mexican hipster goths and go to the beach with black hipsters, and then read about some really artsy thing that sounds really awesome... but when you go, it's just the same old pasty kids with hair in their faces and thick-rimmed glasses...
