Valley News

Bloggers must be doing something right!

The Los Angeles Daily News will be launching a new site this month: www.valleynews.com.

It's a forum to post news and create a larger readership for their advertisers, I'm sure. Again, here's a way for the Daily News to recover revenues since readership is down in the "real paper" world.

Will it be news, or will it be community opinion that becomes news? That's what I'm eager to see.

Valleynews.com looks like part of Yourhub.com, a neighborhood event and citizen journalism site. It's a "licensed product" of the Denver Newspaper Agency, the operator of The Denver Post and Rocky Mountain News.

Yourhub launched in Denver and attracted oodles of stiff press releases and staged photo ops. On Thursdays they printed a "best of" insert for the Rocky Mountain News.

Since then, Denver's Yourhub found its grassroots, lots more blogs and personal stories and photos: denver.yourhub.com.

Yeah they are moving in on my territory. This is MY idea damnit :)

My website, www.scvtalk.com is a community news project for the Santa Clarita Valley (Magic Mountain area) It's started to pick up steam.

Now ValleyNews.com comes along with their marketing muscle.

We're still doing okay though, and we have ZERO ads and quite a few good writers.

So far on their Santa Clarita site they've got a few articles that masquerade as news but in reality are free advertisements.
